How many litres can the Lapin kettle hold at most/at least? The Le Lapin kettle can hold a maximum of 1.7 litres of water. However, never fill it fuller than the maximum 1.7 litres. Water can then enter the heating system, which can damage the kettle. As soon as the viewing glass at the bottom of the back of the handle turns orange, you must stop filling it. Because you should never bring the kettle to the boil without water , you must always fill the kettle with at least 0.15 litres of water .
How do I maintain my Lapin kettle? To extend the lifespan of your Le Lapin kettle, you should prevent limescale deposits in the kettle. Limescale can form a hard layer in the kettle that can affect the functioning of the kettle. Even clean and soft tap water contains small particles of minerals such as calcium or magnesium that are not visible to the naked eye. The hardness of the water varies per water board and/or municipality in the Netherlands. The accumulation of limescale in the kettle can form a hard layer that is difficult to remove. It not only looks ugly and unhygienic, but it can also affect the performance of your kettle because it takes longer to heat the water. Limescale can also affect the taste and quality of your water, making your cup of tea taste a lot less good, for example. Regularly removing limescale not only increases the lifespan of your kettle, but also ensures optimum water quality.
Vinegar can help soften hard limescale in your kettle. Follow these instructions:
- Fill the kettle half or three-quarters full with equal parts water and vinegar.
- Put the kettle on and let it come to the boil.
- Turn the kettle off and let it soak in the kettle for 20-30 minutes to soften the limescale. You can leave the solution for longer or increase the amount of vinegar if the limescale is very stubborn.
- Rinse thoroughly with tap water. To remove the vinegar smell, fill the kettle with water, bring to a boil and discard the water.
If you don't have vinegar, you can also try lemon juice :
- Make a mixture of water and lemon juice. You can also cut the lemon pieces and leave them in the water.
- Fill the kettle with the mixture.
- Bring the water to a boil.
- Let it rest for an hour to soften the hard layer in the kettle.
- Discard the contents and rinse the kettle thoroughly with water and let it dry.
Using lemon juice has the added benefit of making your kettle smell like fresh lemon.
Another cleaning option can be using baking soda . Follow these simple steps to clean kettle with baking soda.
- Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with water.
- Bring this solution to a boil in the kettle.
- Let it sit for about twenty minutes to soften the hard layer.
To keep the outside of your kettle in perfect condition, you should also clean the outside surface of the kettle regularly. You can use normal dishwashing liquid to keep it clean. Do not put soapy water in the kettle. Clean the outside with a damp cloth. Never completely submerge your kettle in water!
How do I remove and clean the limescale filter of my Le Lapin kettle? The limescale filter of your Le Lapin kettle removes most of the limescale and other impurities from the water. Try to clean the filter monthly. To do this, first remove the filter from the 'ear' of the kettle as follows.
1. Turn the 'ear' until the two protruding lines are in line with each other.
2. Pull the 'ear' out of the pour opening with force and remove the filter.
3. Place the filter completely submerged in a bowl of white vinegar and leave it there for a few hours. Then rinse the filter well, place it back in the 'ear' and press 'the ear' (with the two lines aligned again) firmly back into the pouring opening.
How do I fill my Le Lapin kettle? Turn the 'ear' of your Le Lapin kettle 180 degrees downwards as follows:
This way, the limescale filter slides away from the filler opening and you can fill the kettle with water. Never fill the kettle with more than 1.7 litres of water. As soon as the level indicator window at the bottom of the handle turns orange, you must immediately stop filling. An overfilled kettle can damage the heating system. In addition, you must ensure that you only fill the kettle with the amount of water that you really need at that moment. Of course, you do not need to fill the entire kettle for 1 cup of tea. This will make boiling take longer, which in turn results in time, energy and extra CO2 emissions.
After you have filled the kettle, you can turn the 'ear' upwards again so that the water you pour out after boiling is filtered from limescale and other dirt.
